The cold weather has definitely settled in, so there’s no better time to head to the Mainline’s new mecca for seasonal comfort food: The Saint James, the 125-seater we designed for Michael Schulson and Rob Wasserman that opened in October. Here’s a look inside.

The March 2012 issue of Gotham Magazine features a fashion editorial shot at our favorite NY restaurant.
Caffè Storico is Stephen Starr’s Italian-inspired cicchetteria located in the New-York Historical Society. Executive chef Jim Burke helms the kitchen, turning out small plates, handmade pastas, entrées, and classic desserts; an all-Italian wine list rounds out the menu. The restaurant, designed by SLDesign, incorporates both modern and vintage elements such as leather banquette seating and china selected from the museum’s collection.

Chris is profiled in the March 2012 issue of Hospitality Design in a feature called Meet the Minds Behind Restaurant Design.
Thanks to HDMag for the Q + A and all the love.
Chris Sheffield says he didn’t always know he wanted to be a designer, but he definitely found his calling. From American Fish in Las Vegas to Corkbuzz wine bar in New York and Arrow Swim Club in Philadelphia, his diverse portfolio shows not only the depth of his talent, but his ability to create spaces that inspire and engage the guests.

It feels as though we’ve been living in New York for the past two months, but with several new projects opening since Thanksgiving, there’s finally an opportunity to share our latest and greatest.
Caffe Storico is Stephen Starr’s newest restaurant. Located at the recently renovated New-York Historical Society, we designed the 75-seat space to evoke the spirit of a contemporary Venetian cicchettiria; a combination of modern furniture and bold color in a historic envelope that recalls the the charm of the museum’s 19th century Victorian past and the Italian aesthetic. Adorning the walls are Chinese and 19th century European porcelain and Staffordshire china—all from the New-York Historical Society’s collection—adding splashes of blue and green hues to the warm white space.

The restaurant just opened to the public on Saturday, but Eater has a sneak peek inside the space.
Gothamist also has a great gallery of images.

With a couple of new feature articles coming out in early 2012, we needed new headshots. This is what we look like.
Thanks to Melissa Baruno for making us look presentable, and for being patient.

Summer fun for the young… and the young at heart.
With the end of summer right around the corner, we wanted to post some images of our recent photoshoot at Arrow Swim Club. We spent a day of fun in the sun and a night by the fire at ASC capturing images of the space. Thanks to all of the models, hair and make-up geniuses and fantastic wardrobe stylists who responded to our casting call.
Of course, a very special thanks to M Scott Whitson and Marie Alyse Rodriguez for the great photos.

Recently, Chris was interviewed for a feature in Dining & Designing, a new column in which Eater National and Curbed National profile and explore the design of restaurants.
Thanks to Julie Earle-Levine for a great Q+A.
Philadelphia-based Chris Sheffield, who started SLDesign in 2005, masterminded the interiors of Bills Bar & Burger in Manhattan, the 400-seat largest standalone burger joint in the country, Amalia at the Dream Hotel (also in NYC), and the award-winning Postcard Inn (St. Pete Beach, FL). He’s currently working on revamping Stone Rose in NYC’s Time Warner Building, a new restaurant for Stephen Starr at the New York Historical Society, a swank private swim club and restaurant in Philadelphia, plus a cool new wine bar concept for the world’s youngest female master sommelier. He spoke to us about themed restaurants, the thrill of working for Starr and Steve Hanson, and his desire to create an urban hotel in Philadelphia. Or Paris. Either works.

Open since December, our friend Melissa Baruno’s One Shot Coffee in Northern Liberties in serving up great coffee and food in a new two-story space that we designed to feel like it had always been there.
